Why VBS Might Be the Best Thing for Your Child This Summer

Why VBS Might Be the Best Thing for Your Child This Summer

(And Why You’ll Be Glad You Signed Them Up)

Every summer, families search for ways to keep their kids engaged, growing, and off screens. While camps and classes abound, there’s one week that stands apart—Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Friends Church Yorba Linda.

This isn’t just a week of games and crafts (though there are plenty of those). VBS is a powerful environment where fun meets faith, and friendships are rooted in something deeper.

This year’s theme, Kingdom Academy (July 21–25), invites kids entering 5 years old through 5th grade into an immersive, castle-themed adventure. But behind the royal costumes and silly songs, something truly meaningful is happening.

1. VBS Builds Real Confidence

At Kingdom Academy, every child is seen, heard, and encouraged. Whether they’re quiet or outgoing, artistic or athletic, there’s a place for them to shine.

Each day is filled with challenges designed to help kids:

  • Try new things in a safe setting
  • Work together as a team
  • Learn that their voice matters

Kids leave knowing that they are uniquely gifted and loved by God—and that gives them courage that lasts far beyond the week.

2. It’s a Safe, Screen-Free Zone

In a world dominated by devices and distractions, VBS gives your child five mornings of meaningful, hands-on connection. There are no phones, no apps—just real-life relationships, laughter, and movement.

Instead of scrolling, they’ll be:

  • Playing purpose-filled games
  • Singing upbeat worship songs
  • Creating themed crafts
  • Exploring timeless Bible truths through interactive storytelling

3. Friendships That Stick

Many kids come to VBS not knowing anyone—and leave with a group of new friends they can’t wait to see on Sunday. Our volunteers and group leaders are trained to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where every child feels like they belong.

These friendships often turn into:

  • Playdates
  • New Sunday school buddies
  • Small group connections that continue all year

4. Faith in Action

Kids learn big spiritual truths in simple, memorable ways. At Kingdom Academy, your child will discover what it means to:

  • Be part of God’s kingdom
  • Live with purpose and courage
  • Trust in Jesus in everyday life

These lessons are more than information—they’re transformation. We often hear stories from parents who say their child began praying at bedtime, asking questions about Jesus, or sharing what they learned with younger siblings.

“After VBS, my son asked if we could start coming to church every Sunday. That week sparked something I hadn’t seen before.”
- Ashley

5. It’s for Parents Too

Let’s be honest—summer can feel long. VBS gives you five quiet mornings to breathe, reset, or run errands. But more importantly, it gives you something shared with your child: a spiritual anchor point for conversations, prayers, and growth together.
